Transform classic french toast into a decadent and sinful, dessert-worthy treat with this Nutella mascarpone french toast. Surprise the family with a Valentine’s Day brunch and serve this luscious and rich dessert-inspired dish.
Every once in a while we all deserve a cheat day, a day to indulge our culinary obsessions. What better day to do that than on Valentine’s Day? In fact, I had V-day in mind when I first prepared this dish a few weeks ago. Weekday breakfast options usually alternate between cereal and overnight oats – both of which make mornings easy and stress-free. Sunday mornings on the other hand are usually reserved for more extravagant breakfasts. There’s no rush to get the kids off to school, I’m much more relaxed compared to a regular work day morning, and breakfast is not restricted to a specific time. It was a really lazy morning on this particular Sunday – we watched a few too many cartoons and caught up with family in Italy via Skype, and before I knew it 10:30 had creeped up on us. What was originally intended for breakfast quickly became brunch, and a decadent brunch it was!
This french toast is the epitome of a decadent brunch item – rich Nutella and creamy mascarpone cheese spread onto two crispy, buttery slices of french toast. The addition of bananas and strawberries add a fresh (and healthy) component to the dish. This Nutella mascarpone french toast got raving reviews – even before the kids devoured it! If I could turn back time I would have taken photos of their excited little faces, drooling over all the decadent ingredients on the kitchen counter as I was preparing this. I too couldn’t help but wait to dig in, which resulted in a few two many spoons of Nutella and mascarpone! I’m certain your entire family will love these, but feel free to make substitutions to suit your personal tastes. Blueberries, raspberries or blackberries would be delicious too, as well as ricotta or cream cheese as a substitute for the mascarpone.

This looks absolutely delicious! I love trying new breakfast foods that aren’t too heavy on the stomach. I love mascarpone – it’s one of my favorite foods ever!!! And nutella, well, duh! 😉 Great recipe!
Confession: I’ve never tried Nutella. Crazy right? I’m pretty sure it’s the biggest trend of the century and I’ve never had it once. I keep thinking I should but I’m afraid I’d love it too much – this does look pretty dang delicious though!
Really?! I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t eaten Nutella, lol! My husband and I are both Italian so we grew up on the stuff…sort of like how North Americans grow up on pb n’ jam!
So funny that I recently tried for the first time a sandwich with peanut butter and fresh strawberries. Thought it was pretty good using the strawberries as the jelly and it tasted better than I expected and I was happy. This looks good. I like it!
Peanut butter and strawberries?! Interesting! Seems like an odd combo, but then again it’s like having strawberry jam. I’m going to try that!
THis sounds deliciously decadent for sure. Sounds perfect for Sunday brunch on a day when you didn’t plan to eat until a late dinner time. I am definitely going to try this recipe, as we are pretty lazy on Sundays and this just sounds perfect maybe with some crisp bacon and coffee. Then a nap;)
It would be perfect for breakfast for dinner!
Oh my gosh. what a great breakfast treat this would be. I love Nutella anything but Nutella mascarpone french toast! YES please. What a creative recipe that I will have to try very soon.
Thanks Censie!
I have never thought about using mascarpone cheese and nutella together. That sure sounds like a great mix. I love the idea of changing up the traditional french toast recipe with these rich flavors. I know my daughter would love these and I think I will have to make it for her. I have some left over mascarpone from a canoli recipe I was making so this will be easy to do this weekend.
Cannoli…yum! I haven’t made those in ages! I actually make them with a ricotta and mascarpone combo!
Oh my goodness…YUM! Nutella and mascarpone are two of my most favorite things in the whole world! I’ve totally never thought of putting them together, though. Sounds like a match made in heaven. And the addition of the strawberries and bananas sounds awesome!
This is obviously very decadent, but the strawberries and bananas make it somewhat ‘healthy’ right?!
Uhh yes please YUM! I haven’t had Nutella in ages, but I think it may just be time to get to the store LOL. I love the idea of doing it with strawberries and bananas.
