Superfood Green Protein Smoothie

Superfood Green Protein Smoothie

A refreshing smoothie always hits the spot on a hot summer’s day. A superfood green protein smoothie is even better. This refreshing, protein-packed drink is made with delicious and nutritious plant-based ingredients, including hemp hearts, turmeric, avocado, and spinach. After a strenuous yoga flow, a refreshing treat like this delicious smoothie is much needed!

Today’s post is a combination of yoga and smoothies. I’ve always loved yoga, but have always found it difficult, due to many physical ailments, including a herniated disc in my back, and weak ankles and knees. I’ve recently taken up Mysore Ashtanga yoga, and needless to say it is extremely challenging, but at the same time so inspiring. I’ve developed a new appreciation for my body and my personal limits. As tight and inflexible as my body is, I have already noticed significant changes in my stamina and flexibility. Having said that, the one pose that I’ve yet to fully appreciate is wheel pose. In fact, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love it because I know it is a beneficial pose for the back, but I hate it because it’s a pose I struggle with greatly. Blocks are definitely a yogi’s best friend. Since I started incorporating blocks into my practice I’ve improved my overall form and alignment, which allows me to move further and deeper into poses. Take for example wheel pose; my chest is lifted higher, my back is properly arched, and I can feel the burn in my thighs and not my lower back! It’s a work in progress, but I know with time I will improve.

And now back to the recipe! As with any post-yoga practice I always choose a nutritious and filling treat to give me energy and fill my tummy. This superfood green protein smoothie is so rich and creamy, and so full of wholesome ingredients that it not only tastes delicious, it also gives me the nutrients and protein that I need in order to get on with my day. It’s a powerhouse snack in a glass bottle, or wherever you choose to pour it! Word to the wise, steer clear of the kids when preparing this – that it, unless you want to share this delicious smoothie with them. My kids dislike plant-based milk, as well as avocado and spinach, but they devour mom’s green smoothies!

  • Love this post!

I hear you on the yoga. I’ve been practicing pretty regularly for the last year, and there are things I can do now that I never would have thought possible. Plus, it makes me feel so good! Every morning after I get home, I make myself a smoothie. I’m so excited to give yours a try. With clean ingredients, and a boost of protein, sounds like my kind of thing! x

    • Sounds like you have pretty much the same routine as me; yoga every morning + a healthy smoothie to start the day!

  • I have a coworker who makes a drink like this for himself and he absolutely loves what it does for him. I know he drinks one almost every day. And he is now getting many of my other coworkers to drink it. So it’s spreading. But everyone who is drinking it loves it.

    • They’re addictive! The best part, besides the fact that are delicious, is that you can add any ingredients you want in them!

  • Any idea on the calories per serving? I mean honestly it sounds so much healthier than most smoothies that are loaded with bananas, orange juice and other fruits that bring so much sugar. and man, do i love hemp hearts (and turmeric!)

    • I don’t have an exact amount, but I’m sure if can be figured out by breaking down the ingredient portions and doing some math 😉 The only thing that I’m usually concerned about in smoothies is added sugar, and this one there’s pure raw honey, which is fine by me! 😉

  • That sounds like a great smoothie. My kids love having smoothies for breakfast and I love finding ways to sneak more protein and veggies into those smoothies. Thanks for this great recipe.

  • I’ve been searching Pinterest lately for a few smoothie recipes, then today I see you have posted one that has piqued my interest. I am trying my best to find more healthy protein smoothies for us all, I’m definitely going to try this recipe this weekend. Thanks!

  • You had me at mango, because that is my favorite fruit. I need to start doing yoga and adding more fruits to my life, this would help. I have never tried anything but regular milk, so this is going to be a good way to try something new.

  • I keep reading that I need to be drinking protein smoothies. It’s recommended not only for workouts, but also to start out my day.

  • I have never attempted to make a green smoothie but it’s definitely high up on my to-do list. The ingredients you used look really delicious. Looks like the perfect way to stay healthy and refreshed this summer.

  • mm… I like what you put in there! I love turmeric and cinnamon. My kids don’t drink milk either. My daughter did as a baby/toddler but my son never did! We had to find calcium elsewhere. Luckily, he does like green smoothies! I think avocados can do no wrong.
