This first time I had this shrimp cocktail was over 8 years ago while living in Italy. No stranger to seafood, I loved the idea of this salad, but I wasn’t convinced of the ingredients. Needless to say, it was love at first bite…and this shrimp cocktail has become part of my recipe repertoire ever since.
Let me preface by stating that I’m not a fan of mayonnaise nor ketchup. Consequently, I was taken by surprise that despite the fact that these were the main ingredients in this recipe, I couldn’t get enough of it!
Something about the combination of tart ketchup, creamy sweet mayo, and the bite from the Worcestershire and paprika make this shrimp cocktail so flavourful and so delicious!
This shrimp cocktail can be served in variety of ways, simple as is on a bed of lettuce leaves or on its own, as a fresh side salad to a seafood dinner, or served in small portions as a crowd-pleasing appetizer. Any which way you serve it, it’s delicious!
I actually prefer the leftovers. The longer flavours combine, the more flavourful it is!
Want a little more kick? Mix in a little horseradish! Great on crackers.
It looks amazing. I only ever eat shrimp when my husband makes it as I am terrified of getting poisoned somewhere else, haha.
It might sound pretentious but I prefer making it at home…It costs less, I know it’s fresh, and I think it tastes better most of the time anyway, lol!
This looks so delish, great post. Recently I saw this avocado product that’s supposed to be like mayonnaise, maybe that would be a good fit for this.
I was actually thinking of using avocado instead of mayo but I wanted to first post the original recipe! Next time I’m going to add mashed avocado…I think it would be delicious!
Ahhhh… I’m so gunna have to send this to my hubby!!! Shrimp cocktail is one of his altime favorites!
Great! I’d love to know what he thinks of it!
I don’t think I could try this. I would get addicted to it and have to have it every day.
I’d normally say that there’s nothing’s wrong with that, but…that might be a bit too much mayo consumption for one person!
I am fan of any meal with a 12 minutes total prep and cook time. Plus, shrimp is a family favorite.
I agree, lol!
My son would love this. He loves Shrimp Cocktail. I don’t think he has ever had it like this though.
I have to bookmark this!
I love shrimp. I actually remember the first time I had shrimp cocktail–2002. I got ill and found out I was preggo. LOL! I want to try this recipe.
Oh no! So, were you turned off of shrimp while you were pregnant then?! lol!
This is the kind of thing we break out for a nice treat when we’re having company. We don’t indulge usually if we’re not… how silly of us!! We might have to change that up a wee bit. 😉
That’s true! It’s really not a difficult or fancy dish to prepare…you should treat yourself 😉
I am not a mayo or ketchup fan either, but I have to admit this dish looks delicious. I love shrimp so I will definitely be trying this!
You might change your mind…as I did! lol!
I have not tried shrimp cocktail yet. This recipe looks so delicious i will have to give it a try.
I love shrimp with a passion, it is easily one of my most favorite seafood to have!
As a young adult I was not a fan of the mayo dressing recipes on shrimp. However, as I have gotten older and my tastes have changed, I really enjoy it now. Your photos look amazing!
I still don’t love mayo but I love it in this recipe!
Oooh yummy, I’ve only had shrimp cocktail once but I knew I would eat it again. I never made my own so definitely trying this.
I hardly ever see it made here in Canada…in Italy it’s quite a staple, especially at restaurants, weddings, etc.
That looks so delicious!! Is this meant for baby’s though? I bet my baby would like it…but most baby’s probably wouldn’t.
I would definitely feed this to babies over one year…if they love fish they might like this! Having said that, this was more a of a meal for mom and dad 😉
Wow! This is an awesome recipe! I love any kind of shrimp dishes and I definitely will make this one for dinner this week. 🙂
Great! Your must likely to have all of the ingredients on hand anyway!
That looks really good! I haven’t tried shrimp in many years. I didn’t like it back when I was a child but now that I’m an adult I sure want to try it. This recipe makes it look delicious!
I think shrimp has a really mild flavour so it really depends on how you cook it! The ingredients in the sauce make it really flavourful!
I love shrimp, it’s my favorite seafood. I’ve never tried anything like this before, though.
It’s always nice to try new methods of cooking and different recipes than your regular repertoire! 😉
I love shrimp cocktails but I’ve never seen one like this! It looks pretty good! I’m going to have to try this out sometime
We alternate between this recipe and ceviche (which I prefer because it is much lighter in taste and calories!).
Oh wow that looks good and i don’t even eat shrimp! I know my husband is a huge fan and would love this!
Lol! Could I have possibly convinced you to try this then?!
I’ve never had a shrimp cocktail like this! It sounds delicious. I definitely want to try it.
Now I know exactly what to make when my kids visit. This looks delicious and shrimp is their favorite!
Please send feedback if you do try it…I’m always curious as to how my recipes turn out for my followers!
I love shrimp cocktail. I can’t wiat to try this!
Yes please! I love shrimp…we actually had pepper shrimp last night. So delish. This shrimp cocktail is definitely something I will enjoy. Saving the recipe. Thanks. 🙂
Pepper and shrimp is another combo I love…I fry them up and stuff them into a quesadilla! I hope you make this!
Stop it… you are making me hungry! these look so good!
Lol, thanks!
My Mom makes a crab cocktail similar looking to your shrimp one. I wonder how similar they’d taste? Lol
Ooh, I’ve never thought to make this with crab! Thanks for the idea!
What a great little dish! That would make an excellent main course, I think.
That’s exactly how I served it…I made enough for us to all have a hearty portion.
This looks delicious! I think I’d probably substitute the lettuce for spinach, though. I can’t wait to give it a shot!
Spinach sounds like a great substitute!
We don’t eat seafood in our house, but I have served things like this when I have had parties for different occasions,
Your dinner guests would love this..you might too (you never know, lol!).
