Cereal has to be the easiest breakfast option there is. Just open the box, pour some milk in a bowl, and voila! Breakfast is served. The downside about packaged cereals is tht they contain so many hidden sugars, refined ingredients, and unhealthy additives and preservatives. This homemade baby cereal recipe is so easy and foolproof that you’ll second guess grabbing that packaged cereal from the store shelves the next time you’re at the grocery store!
My son is a machine. A self-feeding machine. Whatever we put in front of him, he eats it – even his veggies (which I know won’t last for long!). In case you’re wondering, those two pieces of puffed rice stuck to his face the entire time he devoured his homemade baby cereal!
Since he’s progressed from pureed foods to finger foods, his breakfasts (and all meals for that matter) have been more varied and interesting. He loves his cereal. And with every mom, in terms of choosing quick and easy breakfast options for the kids – especially if you’re pulled an all-nighter. But, I have a love-hate relationship with packaged foods. Yes, they’re convenient, but we never truly know what’s in them. And that’s the reason why I took a whirl at preparing my own baby cereal – which by the way, moms can eat too!
Essentially all you need are 2 ingredients to prepare this quick and easy breakfast for toddlers; liquid sweetener and organic puffed rice. If your child has a more adventurous palate you can add in other flavours like vanilla, cinnamon, or in this case carob powder – which gives this healthy baby cereal a hint of chocolately-caramel flavour. This puffed rice cereal can be served warm or at room temperature. Once my son masters the art of holding a spoon, he’ll be eating this cereal from a nice cold bowl of milk!
