Happy St.Patrick’s Day! Have I got a healthy, vegan, green treat for you!
This healthy shamrock smoothie is a delicious combination of creamy avocado, organic spinach, and sweet bananas, blended with dairy-free coconut milk and natural sweeteners. A nutritious, easy-to-make treat for yourself and the kids.
With its mild, sweet flavour, spinach is the perfect leafy green to add to this smoothie, especially if you are preparing this for a skeptical toddler. The combination of avocado and coconut milk adds a luscious, creamy consistency which makes this smoothie a much healthier yet still satisying option for the kids.
Curious about turmeric? This bright yellow spice, traditionally used in curry, is well-know for its anti-inflammatory properties and is linked to improved brain function. As for the addition of turmeric in this recipe, I love the earthy flavour it adds to the smoothie and in my opinion, it pairs extremely well with sweet bananas.
If you have a picky toddler in the house who mostly avoids eating anything green, this smoothie just might do the trick. Although my son doesn’t love greens, he was willing to try this, most likely because he saw some of his favourite fruits go in the mix.
This healthy shamrock smoothie, which by the way I had prepared for myself (under the assumption that my son wouldn’t be interested in trying it) ended up being handed over to him! My son devoured this smoothie, despite the fact that he knew there was spinach in it.
On a side note; if you have an exceptionally picky child this smoothie would be better prepared in a Vitamix, which would conceal the spinach completely. Using a food processor does the trick although it doesn’t blend the spinach leaves entirely. I actually find the flecks somewhat festive 😉
I’ve been drinking a lot of smoothies lately because that is the only thing i can keep down. Will have to try this recipe, sounds really filling!
I’ve wanted to experiment with avocado for a while now. I’ve been seeing recipes for baked goods that incorporate them, and now this smoothie. I love guac, and there’s obviously so much more you can do with them.
So true…I put them in everything! I just posted a recipe for avocado chocolate chip cookies 😉
I just love green smoothies. I’ve never tried one with coconut milk before though … yum!
I love alvacados! I have got to try this. I bet my little guy would love this too. Thanks for the recipe.
Great! I hope you do!
This looks like such a health booster! I will try it for sure, amazing way to have great breakfast
I pinned that one to a breakfast board. I think it would be an awesome way to start the day. Funny too, that your son ended up drinking it. Children voluntarily eating/drinking spinach is sure to make moms everywhere smile. 😉
Awesome, thanks for pinning!
I have to admit that I am not vegan but would love to try this smoothie. It sounds amazing indeed. I will be making this for sure. Thanks for sharing.
No need to be vegan to enjoy this…you could just substitute the coconut milk with regular milk!
That looks delicious and definitely very healthy. I love avocado and bananas, not so crazy about spinach but I’ll give it a try.
You could add less spinach or omit altogether. A vitamix would be more ideal for this recipe so it completely disguises the spinach!
I’ll admit, I’ve been dying to go grab a Shamrock Shake from McDonalds, but am trying so hard to stick to my diet. Might give this one a try instead 😉
If you’re trying to stick to your diet you should definitely try this one instead 😉
Oh wow I have to give this recipe to my daughter. She is into juicing big time and would love this one. It looks like it tastes really good too. Thanks much for sharing this yummy and healthy recipe!
Thanks for sharing…I hope she enjoys it!
I’m not a Vegan but i do love Avocados and Bananas, Plus most of my family are Irish so I definitely need to try this!
No need to be vegan…this recipe just proves the point that vegan still means delicious, lol!
What a great green smoothie recipe!! I love that its all natural things in it.
Green smoothies are my favorite. I am loving this recipe! I need to try a smoothie for breakfast tomorrow.
This looks so, so delicious. I’m pinning it and buying all of the ingredients on our next grocery run- I’ve been craving avocado lately so this is a perfect, healthy “treat” for me! Thanks so much 🙂
Great! By the way, since you said you’ve been craving avocado, you might want to check out tomorrow’s post; avocado chocolate chip cookies 😉
This sounds absolutely delicious! I actually just bought a bunch of spinach on sale, so Shamrock Smoothies for everyone!
What a coincidence! Hope they love them as much as we do 😉
I love smoothies and make them all the time. I would have never though to add avocado – yum!
You should try it…it adds a really creamy consistently!
That shamrock smoothie looks so scrumptious! Thanks for sharing your recipe 🙂
I love avocado smoothies but I tend to put more milk in it. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
It really depends on your preference…I actually put very little milk when I make frozen smoothies so they almost have the same texture as ice cream 😉
I love green smoothies. What an interesting combo of ingredients & spices this recipe has.
Thanks, there are so many smoothie recipes out there. I’d like to think the addition of toasted coconut and turmeric in mine adds a nice (different) touch 😉
This looks pretty good and I love healthy smoothies. The kids love them for snacks any day of the year but a green one would be so much fun for St. Patty’s day.
Mine too, although I tend to make them more often during the summer months!
I love making smoothie using fruits as the main ingredients. Daughter and I would love this as we love avocado!
I add avocado to so many smoothie recipes…it adds a ton of creaminess!
That looks amazing! I never thought I’d like a green smoothie, but I was forced to drink one about a month ago, and it was awesome! I can’t wait to give this one a try.
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
This looks good! My kids like spinach and kale. Although I don’t have a vitamix either, I bet I could blend it enough for them!
I keep contemplating whether I should buy one or not…the fact that my son drank this despite the tiny green flecks makes me think I don’t actually need one, lol!
This looks absolutely delicious!!! I can’t wait to try it. I love making shakes for the kids, but we can’t use milk this is perfect.
We are just starting getting back into shakes…since winter is FINALLY over!!! You can use any milk-almond, soy, hemp, coconut…I’ve tried them ALL!
That looks amazing!!!! I actually think I could sneak it into my kiddos. Must try :)!
Thank you! Would love feedback if you try it 😉
With the ingredients of avocado, spinach and bananas, it doesn’t look like it would taste good, but your pictures are amazing and as a mom anytime I can sneak some veggies in, its a good thing.
I completely agree in regards to the list if ingredients…but it is delicious! Would love feedback if you try it 😉
This is absolutely more tempting than the gross food-color laden posts that are popping up everywhere! It looks amazing too – and one that I can do!
That was quick, lol! And thanks, no food colouring on this Blog! 😉
