These cheeseburger burrito wraps will satisfy your craving for a burger and Mexican food, all in one pocket of deliciousness. This weeknight meal is easy and quick to prepare and is sure to be a staple in your recipe repertoire.
There’s a long story behind the creation of these cheeseburger burritos wraps, but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet. Since moving to Canada from Italy over ten years ago, it’s become an ongoing joke in the family that my husband has yet to taste all of the different types of North American fast food. Truthfully, he’s neither tempted nor curious about Kentucky Fried Chicken and the rest of the lot-surely due to the fact that he grew up in a country that savours and appreciates REAL, quality food.
My brother has come up with a game plan. A sort of around the North American fast food chains dinner game, where once a month when he comes by for dinner he brings a fast food dinner of choice (which by the way, neither I nor the kids take part in). Taco Bell was on tonight’s menu. In light of my brothers’ dinner plans, I decided to prepare healthy burritos for the kids (I made a vegan version for myself with mashed lentils).
While the kids sat at the dinner table patiently waiting for their burritos to be served they were (of course) tempted by the smorgasbord of Taco Bell randoms on the table, so they tasted them. Their first official run for the border. And they didn’t like it.
These cheeseburger burrito wraps however, were devoured. The moral of my story? Don’t run for the border for dinner, and just stick to the REAL stuff!
For toppings I added a cubed avocado, some thinly sliced tomatoes and a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. You can personalize these by adding your favourite ingredients, like salsa, sauteed mushrooms, shredded lettuce, scallions, caramelized onions, guacamole, and goat cheese or feta cheese!
If you try this recipe (and love it!) be sure to snap a pic and tag me on Instagram with #bitesforfoodies so I can see your creation!
I can’t find this recipe, I see your post but not the directions and ingredients. This is happening with some other posts as well, though some are fine, any suggestions?
Sorry! I was tweaking the post and was having some issues! Thanks for the heads up! The recipe is now posted. I’m checking on the other recipes but please let me know if you’d like to try one and I’ll tweak it ASAP! 😉
Oh man these look so good! I’m going to pin this recipe to make this weekend.
Great! Please let me know if you do!
I love how amazing this meal looks! I might give it a try!
Oh man, these looks delicious!! It’s almost lunch time here and think sounds so amazing!
Thank you! Hope you make it 😉
yum this is such a good idea for an afternoon snack 🙂
I love that your son choose homemade!! I really regret not doing more of that for my kids when they were younger, they now prefer the fast food choices.
I joke that my kids eat way too healthy and the day they start hanging around at their friends’ houses and start seeing chips, fast food, etc, they’re going to have an epiphany, lol!
Home made foods are a lot healthier plus you get to take control over all the ingredients. The burrito wraps looks so tasty.
Exactly! These are just as delicious but they aren’t bad for you!
Omg these look absolutely delicious!!! Will have to pin so I can try later 😉
Thanks for pinning!
These sound and look so yummy! Sadly I gave up meat for lent. They will just have to have until after Easter.
These look so super delicious! We love burgers and wraps,so this is a great combination! I love the avocado in there too!
I love avocado in ANYthing! 😉
Yum this looks incredible! I’ve never made burritos at home. But I think I may need to, this looks so good! My kids would love them!
It’s easier than you think! The tricky part is wrapping them but once you ge the hang of it you’ll be able to prepare this pretty quickly!
Oh looks good! I like the avocado in it! It kinda looks like the burritos I make when we have taco night.
Exactly…except the condiments are for burgers and not tacos (except for the avocado maybe!)
This is so clever! Great way to give little hands burger without the mess! will try it out
My kids end up taking off the bun anyway so it’s a waste…the tortillas end up nice and crunchy and they love them!
I have never tried making a burrito wrap at home. This looks like a great themed recipe to try with my friends! Thanks for sharing, hope mine turn out!
When my kids get a little older I’ll have them make their own…make your own burrito night 😉
oh lala. I prefer making my own meals too. The only “fast food” places I like are Chipotle or Panera Bread. This looks really good!
Me too!! Those are the only two I’ll go to, if I have to! 😉
You’ve wrapped up that burrito so neatly it almost looks like a crepe! I will definitely try this one. I love burgers and my main issue is you can’t always get good buns. If I had my way I’d make brioche burgers but I can’t find good brioche here either. That burrito burger is a great idea — and with avocado too! I’ve done some in the past with slices of red apples. 🙂
I have to say that these burritos turned out better (aesthetically) than most others I’ve made, lol! Brioche burgers sound amazing!!
Doesn’t it? But brioche here comes only as dinner rolls, so I guess they’d have to be sliders. Best cheese I’ve used for burger or ANY sandwich is Swiss Emmental cheese. Next weekend will try your burrito burger.
Great! I’d love some feedback after you make them 😉
oh these looks so yammi. I always prefer to make this kind of yammi foods and snacks at home rather than macdonalds and fast food. I love this recipie am gonna try it sonn.thanx for sharing
Great! Hope it convinces you to make homemade burritos rather than buy fast food 😉
These look amazing…and so much better for you than Taco Bell! I’ve enjoyed their menu a few times and while it’s tasty going down, it can have dire effects on your digestive system! I love your fresh homemade burritos, especially the avocado!
That’s why I stopped eating it…ages ago! I really do prefer the flavour of homemade burritos AND I don’t have to worry about them wreaking havoc on my digestive system!
As a vegetarian, I am definitely not a big fast food eater! Now that I live in Costa Rica and it is a bit harder to get fast food, I will order a meatless taco or something from Taco Bell if I come across one, but more for the notion of it then anything! I also try very hard to keep it homemade and healthy for my daughter so kudos to you!
Kudos to you too! It’s obviously more time consuming to prepare meals yourself but so much healthier for you and your family…it’s definitely worth it!
Our family would love these. We love burgers and love Mexican food & this is the best of both worlds!
I agree! These definitely were a hit…they’re a great finger food for toddlers!
Does the egg wash help the burrito stick together? Thanks for the recipe!
Yes, that’s exactly what it’s for! It literally becomes like glue and keeps everything in! Have you already made the recipe?
I haven’t tried it yet. I’m thinking that I will sometime later this month. Thanks!
This look tasty! I’m going to make these with ground Turkey meat. PS – the hubs would LOVE to eat taco bell all the time if he could (ewee).
What IS it with hubby’s and Taco Bell?!! lol! I seriously couldn’t even enjoy it if I wanted to at this point! Ground turkey is a great substitute-good idea!
Never had Taco Bell but love this recipe! And, more importantly, so did hubby! 🙂 Keeping it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome! Glad it’s a keeper!
Wait…you’ve never had Taco Bell either?! Good for you, lol! I’m happy to hear the recipe was a hit! Thanks for the feedback 😉
We don’t have Taco Bell here in Trinidad, however…I LOVE Taco Bell. I had it a few times when I visited the States. (Insert disappointed face that there is none in Trinidad). This looks like a great alternative and I should definitely try it. We’ve made something similar, but I definitely want to give your recipe a try.
I used to love Taco Bell!! I’ve been eating so healthy for so long that I couldn’t even enjoy it now if I tried, lol!
