‘Estate in Fiore’ 2017 is a local ‘green’ event that takes place in the picturesque town of Arzachena in the Costa Smeralda, the northern part of Sardinia renowned for its beauty, archeological sites, and stunning beaches. Environmental awareness and preserving the natural heritage of the area is the main focus of this event but there is also an extensive programme of activities; open-air markets, urban decoration competitions for local gardeners, typical Sardinian food tasting, children’s games and a variety of kiosks displaying artisanal food and products, from clothing and accessories to ceramics and beauty products.

This is the 4th annual event which takes place from September 1st to September 3rd in the town center, starting at via Ruzittu through corso Garibaldi and all the way up to Santa Lucia Church. One of the highlights for us was the family picnic event, complete with picnic basket and typical Sardinian delicacies, held in the central piazza which was transformed into urban woods.

The kids and I spent a relaxing morning perusing the kiosks, tasting local delicacies, and oohing and aahing over the intricate flora and fauna artworks created by local gardeners. We started our morning off with a typical Italian colazione at the local bar (caffe for us North Americans); cornetti, juice for the kids, and a nice strong espresso for me! The following day we attended the picnic event, complete with a picnic basket and authentic, locally produced Sardinian goods; pane carasau, local olives and cheese, Sospiri sweets, and almond cookies. I might be a city girl at heart, but I can say that I truly enjoy these events that focus on local products and local life, ones that bring locals, seasoned visitors to the area (like myself), and first-timers together to appreciate all that the local area has to offer.

  • This sounds (and looks) like such a great event. My son and I have gotten into gardening. It would have been cool to see people gardening on a competitive level. Also…food! Anything with fresh, tasty food is a win in my book. Very lovely pictures, by the way.

  • So picturesque! I love that you took time to explore! Your tea looks inviting as well. I just love events that promote green living!

  • This looks like so much fun, I wish I could attend. The images you captured are beautiful I think I could sit and look at them all day long. This event will be on a future bucket list of mine for sure.
