Let’s talk back-to-school snacks. As a teacher, I often see students’ lunches filled with pre-packaged foods – sometimes healthy, but more often than not, far from it. As a parent, I understand the convenience of packaged foods, but as a foodie and clean eating nut, I choose not to purchase these products for my children. It might take some effort in terms of organization in the kitchen, but for me it’s worth it. The best part about preparing homemade snacks is that you can substitute ingredients, control the quantity of sugar and salt, and customize them according to your child’s preferences. I prefer making large batches when I have the time and grabbing healthy treats from the freezer to pack in their lunches.
These 5 freezer friendly snacks are a few of my (and the kid’s) favourites:
Healthy Date Brownies
These naturally sweetened brownies are so tasty and decadent that no one will miss the traditional ones.
Lemon Coconut Energy Bars
Even the chocolate-lovers (like myself) in the house will love these. The tart lemon zest and sweet nutty coconut is a winning combination!
Sugar-Free Raw Date Walnut Caramel Dip
A sugar-free caramel dip?? Yes! This one might not make it as far as the lunch box.. Double – better yet, triple the batch!
Gluten Free Breakfast Bars
Chewy, crunchy, sweet, and packed with superfoods. These bars are easily personalized and can be served for breakfast or anytime snack.
Chocolate Chickpea Muffins
These healthy muffins are soft, dense, and rich – just like traditional muffins, yet they’re grain-free and packed with protein.
What’s your favourite freezer-friendly snack for the family?
Your timing is PERFECT Lisa! Thanks for sharing. Gonna give those brownies a go next week!!
Thanks Nicole! They are really quick to make…you can even freeze them in individual portions and just grab a bag and pop it in your kid’s lunch box in the morning 😉
By the way, I hope you post your feedback…would love to hear how they turn out!
Thank you for this! Just in time for back to school. I am sending two little ones of this year (sniff sniff). Now if I could only figure out a way to bake like you (and not eat the goodies!!).
I can only imagine how hard it’s going to be sending them off to school!! For the record, I DO eat the goodies…I actually put the entire batch in the freezer so I don’t have them around to grab at my leisure ;-)))
