Easy Puff Pastry Nutella Twists

Satisfy your sweet craving with this simple and quick dessert. These easy puff pastry Nutella twists are so divine, I bet you can’t eat just one of them. Add these delectable treats to your holiday entertaining recipe repertoire or bring them to your next holiday party.

I’m going to tell you a story.

Once upon a time there was a food blogger who (as per usual) decided to start her holiday baking a little too late. The house was filled with illness for the two weeks leading up to Christmas and so she had little time, and even less energy to prepare scrumptious treats for her family – and not to mention guests for her upcoming Christmas party. The day of the party had arrived and she was desperate for a quick dessert to serve to her party guests. Low and behold she discovered a lone package of puff pastry hidden in the freezer, and thankfully, before she had time to finish off the tub of Nutella she was devouring, she put two and two together and created this ah-mazing dessert!

The story is true, and so is the description of these decadent Nutella twists. In fact, they exceeded my expectations. These easy puff pastry Nutella twists were a show stopper at my Christmas party, and I’m not surprised. They’re flaky, chewy, buttery, and oh-so rich and decadent. And for the record, you can’t just eat one of them – just ask my party guests! A light dusting of icing sugar finishes off this quick and easy party-friendly dessert.

Note: These twists can be filled with substitutes for the Nutella however, the results may vary. I prepared these with jam, almond butter, and peanut butter combined with Nutella. If using jam, be sure to seal the twists as best as you can to avoid the jam seeping out from the sides. Almond and peanut butter are fantastic combinations with Nutella however, since they are much oilier than Nutella the result is much denser and less flaky. In my opinion, the Nutella had by far the best results!

Ingredients
    2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 3-4 tbs. Nutella
  • 1-2 tbs. icing sugar (optional)
Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Roll out one puff pastry sheet (parchment side down) onto a large cutting board. Dollop the Nutella onto the pastry sheet and spread evenly, leaving about a 1/2 inch border. Place the other sheet of puff pastry directly on top. With a pizza cutter, divide the sheets in half vertically then cut 3/4 inch strips. Remove the strips, one by one, twisting both ends in opposite directions then place onto the the baking sheet, spread out evenly. Bake on the middle rack for about 10 minutes then flip over and bake for another 5 minutes or so. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack. Before serving sprinkle some icing sugar over top. Store in the fridge in an air tight container for up to 4 days.

How thin do you roll the pastry

    • I actually don’t roll out the pastry! I buy the frozen ones…just roll out onto baking sheet and you’re ready to go!

Can these be frozen and thawed when needed?

    • Hi Carmela! I have stored a batch in the freezer and then let them thaw shortly before eating. They still taste great however, the texture is not as light and crispy as when first baked. You could try reheating them on low heat in the oven to try and get that crispiness back. They are still delicious though 😉
