Ginger root is known to have powerful powerful medicinal properties, one of which aids in settling stomach aches, digestive problems, and nausea. This healing ginger orange honey tea is a natural flu remedy and helps ease the common symptoms associated with the flu. All you need are 3 ingredients to prepare this natural healing infusion; ginger root, freshly squeezed orange juice, and honey for sweetener.

I have a confession to make. I’ve only recently started to appreciate the flavour of ginger. What I once thought was an overly pungent and too-spicy-for-my-liking flavour, has now become one of my go-to spices in recipes. When I’m feeling under the weather I try to incorporate as much ginger as possible into my diet – whether it be in a soothing, hearty rice bowl, or in an anti-inflammatory tea like this healing ginger root tea.

Unfortunately, my inspiration for this recipe was a result of a bout of the flu – on my birthday weekend no less. You know that flu, the one that lingers and wreaks havoc on your stomach? Nothing a homemade flu remedy can’t heal. This tea is soothing in its own right (Isn’t any tea?), but the rich, spicy flavour of the ginger and the miraculous way it heals stomach pain and nausea makes it a winner. I’m not one for traditional medicine so this natural tea is an essential part of my recovery. If there is one ginger-inspired recipe that you try, it should be this one!

As for the ginger preparation, I’ve used it two ways – grated and a whole piece peeled, and for me both result in an equally pungent tea. The longer you let it steep in the boiled water, the stronger the flavour. This infusion is finished off with raw honey, which helps to cut the bitterness, and a splash of fresh orange with brings out some freshness in the tea.

  • This is the perfect recipe for this time of year!

  • I usually add lemon but I don’t know what possessed me to add orange…it does sweeten it up a bit. I think lemon would be too powerful in this.

  • I love the addition of orange to this tea, it would help sweeten it a little bit! Whenever I’m feeling a bit under the weather I make a hot lemon and ginger tea so adding orange would definitely be nicer!

  • My go-to when I am sick is usually soup. I really should look into healing teas like this though. I know herbs can be very healing and I love the comfy warmth!

  • So sorry you were sick! Ginger is pretty strong, but this hot tea sounds delicious. When we’re not feeling good, I always turn to hot drinks to try and help us to get over whatever it is. Saving this recipe for next time!

  • Well this looks amazing. It is pretty chilly here in Colorado and with the sore throat I have from a cold this looks so good tonight. Might go make one before bed.

  • Ginger is so soothing when I have a sore throat. I need to make a cup of your ginger honey tea. I like that you added a pinch of cinnamon and I imagine it smells really good.
